Australian retail banking major ANZ, as part of a marketing campaign to promote for its internet banking facilities will provide free wireless internet for a month at more than 100 locations across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
Free internet access will be provided at over 100 café locations as well as Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station in November and on Sydney Ferries in January.
Users looking to take advantage of the offer will need to accept and abide by terms and conditions before gaining access to the service, aimed at regulating unfair or illegal use of the internet.
The deal will enable the Melbourne based lender to advertise on Sydney Ferries during the promotion period, ANZ group general manager for bran Lousie Eyres said.
“Our free WiFi initiative is part of an online, above-the-line campaign to raise the profile of the online products we offer that were all first-to-market when launched and direct people to ANZs new website. This is just one way we can provide convenient and simple online access to people so they can do their internet banking, surf the net or have access to other online services while they are travelling or having lunch or a coffee.” Ms. Eyres said.
Last year the government of New South Wales (NSW) back tracked on a commitment to provide free internet access in key areas of the central business district.
NSW premier Morris Iemma first made the commitment in 2006, but subsequently reneged on the promise, before even beginning the project due to excessive cost projections.
