Australia's largest financial institution has offered help and assistance to its customers affected by the recent storms to hit the far north of Queensland.

National Australia Bank (NAB) is to offer a package of "special relief" to customers hit by the recent violent storms which tore into towns surrounding Mackay, in the north of the state.

Recently, the affects of Cyclone Larry - which hit the coastal city earlier this month - wrecked enough properties for insurance provider Suncorp to estimate damages to top $100 million, with 3,500 insurance claims having already been made by residents.

As a result, the NAB has made a raft of procedures available for residents in the area, after previously offering help for customers affected by storms in central Queensland and northern New South Wales earlier this year.

Customers of the NAB will be entitled to a suspension in home loan repayments, a waiving of fees and costs when withdrawing term deposits early and credit card and personal loan relief where available. Support in restructuring other financial activities will also be offered.

Chair of the Queensland Leadership Team - the authority coordinating the area's recovery - Julian Pearce said: "We want to make sure our customers know that NAB will be there to help wherever possible."

"We would invite customers who have been impacted by these floods to contact us so we can discuss their circumstances and work out the best way to help."
