Many people want a little something extra when they commit to a credit card. Reward cards earn treats and special offers for the consumer, without them having to do anything additional. You get gifts in return for expenditure - sounds pretty good really.

The BP Citibank MasterCard is a partnership between one of the largest banks in the world and one of the key players in the petrol market.

The card charges 2.9 per cent on all balance transfers for the first 12 months and, in return credit card holders are entitled to a five per cent discount on all goods - including petrol - at BP stations.

Customers also save one per cent on all other purchases when using the BP Citibank MasterCard.

Meanwhile, the St George Starts Low Stays Low credit card offers a 55-day interest-free period on all purchases a one rate of 12.99 per cent interest on all purchases and cash advances.

A $55 annual charge is required to take up the credit card offer but, in return, customers will be eligible for a wide-range of rewards as a result of the St George Instant Benefits scheme. A number of national companies are involved with the St George scheme, including the Dreamworld resort in the Gold Coast, BigPond and Warner Village Cinemas.

The ANZ Balance credit card offers one reward point for every $1 spent, with rewards including gift cards, adventure holidays and shopping vouchers. For an annual fee of $79, customers get zero per cent interest on balance transfers and up to 55 days interest-free on purchases.
