One of Australia's largest banks has launched a new division aimed at those working in the healthcare sector.

Commonwealth Bank will now provide banking services to health workers through its specialist Healthcare Banking division - and it will be available to all current and new customers in all its branches nationwide.

A broad range of services - including access to home loans, credit cards and personal loans - will be on offer through the bank's new division and available to GPs, pharmacists, specialists, optometrists, vets and dentists.

Robert De Luca, executive general manager at Commonwealth Bank, said: "The preparatory in-market research has played a significant role in helping us develop healthcare banking and ensure we are able to provide customers in this sector the financial solutions and support they really need.

"By lending against cash flow, streamlining our processes and offering customers a holistic banking service to meet their business and personal requirements, our specialists are able to develop more valuable relationships."

In related news, a recent study by Commonwealth Bank found that the recent volatility in the financial markets has encouraged many Baby Boomers to make changes to save more money for retirement.

Consumers born between 1946 and 1964 - who are heading towards retirement - are now thinking more about the money in their savings accounts than they were a couple of years ago, before the current financial climate arrived, the report found.
