Health insurance is important for all Australians. Like it or not, it is essential to have adequate cover in case of emergency.
As a result, there are a wide range of insurance companies to choose from, all claiming to offer the same thing. However, iSelect Health Insurance stands apart from the crowd.
Founded in 2000, iSelect is a relative newcomer on to the health insurance stage. A fully Australian company, it offers a range of insurance policies covering all possible walks of life.
ISelect was initially launched in June 2000 by Damien Waller - who is still the company's chairman and chief executive officer - and Dr David Urpani, with federal health minister Dr Michael Wooldridge lending his support to the scheme.
The company was launched off the back of increasing public demand for "more information prior to committing to a particular product". Health insurance policies had long been seen as a drawn-out and confusing process, which put many people off taking out cover.
However, with this simplified method, the pair could see a gap in the market and, as a result, enable more Australians to get health cover.
In 2007, the firm secured the financial backing of NineMSN which bought a 35 per cent stake in a sister company.
Customers signing up with iSelect can have access to a range of affordable covers, with policies taking into account age, location and profession.
