One of Australia's largest banks has announced it is to upgrade all its ATMs nationwide in a bid to offer more services to customers.
National Australia Bank (NAB) will overhaul all 1,600 cash machines across Australia as part of a new drive to offer services to customers when banking branches are closed.
Credit card statements, adding money to mobile phones and applying for a home loan will all be possible with the new ATMs - which are gradually being rolled out at all NAB branches by September.
The bank has announced that the systems will use Windows XP platforms and use IP networks to keep allow customers to view up to date information about their financial statuses.
Builderau.com.au reported that the new machines will also be equipped to read new chip and pin cards - which are gradually being introduced by the major banks in Australia after a successful period in operation in the UK and Canada.
Jordan Gibbins, head of ATMs and interchange at NAB, said: "From July last year, we commenced upgrading our machines that were already deployed out there.
"Now, we're looking at the entire ATM network, which is close to 1600 ATMs, that should be upgraded by the end of September this year."
Earlier this month, NAB announced an agreement to provide a $1 million interest-free loan and additional funding to assist the Traditional Credit Union expand its banking services for Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory.
