Service offers designer fashions without designer prices

Date Published : Friday, June 13, 2008

Australian women looking to get their hands on the latest designer gear without sending their credit card or bank account into meltdown can now rent those all-important "must haves".

Elizabeth Tilley of the Courier Mail wrote that hiring an "it bag" can cost approximately $100 to $200 a week - whereas buying the same item could cost over $3,000.

In anticipation of the arrival of the Sex and The City movie in Australia, she took out a weekly rental on a designer Prada Fairy Bag from the spring/summer 2009 collection for $199.95 from web boutique Love Me and Leave Me, which delivered the item to her door.

The handbag, which has a price tag for $3,160, comes with a pre-paid postal bag for its return and will soon be available with rental insurance.

In the meantime, Ms Tilley said, renters must be careful with their hired handbags.

Love Me and Leave Me fashion director Simonne Santana told her that customers are strongly encouraged to look after their item as if it were their own - although accidents can happen.

"If [damage is] repairable, we look after it. If it's irreparable, like a cigarette burn, then we'll need to charge them a replacement fee," she said.

After enjoying the bragging rights of having the latest designer accessory, as well as indulging in some "parading around" with it at home, she stated that the rental option is a "fabulous idea" for anyone looking for a striking handbag for a job interview, fashion show or special occasion.

"Or even just to reward yourself once in a while," she added.

Among the most popular items in the Love Me and Leave Me range are Vintage Classic Chanel bags at $95 a week, Gucci Indy bags at $200 a week and Christian Louboutin Youclou shoes at $75 a week.

Shoppers who prefer to take their "must haves" home for good might like to shop around for the best credit cards offers or savings accounts.
